Donald Trump and Paul Ryan to meet amid escalating tensionsPresumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan reportedly plan to meet next week to clear the air and possibly unify the divided party. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus told Fox News' Sean Hannity about the scheduled meeting just hours after Ryan — the nation's highest-ranking Republican — revealed Thursday that he was not ready to endorse Trump's White House run at this time. "Both Donald Trump and Paul Ryan are meeting next week to talk about these things," Priebus said to the Fox News host.

'Boaty McBoatface' sinks as UK names research ship

The £200 million polar research ship will be named Britain will name a new polar research ship "Sir David Attenborough" despite a public vote which was in favour of the joke name "Boaty McBoatface". Science Minister Jo Johnson said the £200 million (250 million euro, $290 million) 15,000 tonne vessel will be named after the veteran naturalist and broadcaster, but said the ship's yellow marine submarine will instead be called "Boaty McBoatface". The furore erupted when the Natural Environment Research Council launched an online poll in March asking members of the public to choose a name for its new ship.

SpaceX successfully lands rocket's first stage after space launch

Space X's Falcon 9 rocket lifts off on April 8, 2016SpaceX successfully landed the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating platform in the Atlantic Ocean early Friday after launching a Japanese communications satellite into orbit. Shouts of "USA, USA, USA" and applause from the ground control crew greeted the feat, only the second time it has been accomplished by SpaceX, the company headed by Internet entrepreneur Elon Musk. SpaceX had not expected to land the first stage successfully because of the returning rocket's high speed, but streaming video captured a picture-perfect touchdown.

The out-of-control blaze has burned down whole neighborhoods of Fort McMurray in Canada's energy heartland and forced a precautionary shutdown of some oil production, driving up global oil prices. Three days after the residents were ordered to leave Fort McMurray, firefighters were still battling to protect homes, businesses and other structures from the flames.

The FBI may be investigating whether Hillary Clinton's private email server arrangement endangered top-secret materials, but the White House is confident she will properly handle any classified information she might get in CIA briefings arranged for the two parties' presidential nominees. Since 1952, the U.S. intelligence community has given classified briefings to the Democratic and Republican nominees.
