Chicago's top cop retiring after turbulent 3-plus years Posted: 07 Nov 2019 09:16 AM PST Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced Thursday that he's retiring after more than three years as the city's top cop, a post he took over during one of the most violent chapters in the city's history and amid public outcry over the release of a video showing an officer shooting a black teen 16 times. Johnson made the announced at a news conference, a couple hours after department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the speculation that the 59-year-old Johnson would be stepping down. India not planning to help banks rescue shadow lender DHFL - sources Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:11 AM PST MUMBAI/NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's government has no plans to participate in the rescue of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd, according to two sources involved in talks between bankers and officials over how to restructure the shadow bank's near 1-trillion-rupee ($14.08 billion) debt. A consortium - led by Union Bank and State Bank of India - was set up to restructure DHFL's debt a month after it defaulted in June. "There is no question of the government issuing directions to the banks (to support DHFL)," one senior government official with direct knowledge of the issue told Reuters. Iraq protesters storm Baghdad bridge, medic killed Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:18 PM PST Anti-government protesters in Iraq stormed a bridge Wednesday in central Baghdad, where security forces pushed them back with batons and tear gas, wounding dozens. A medic was killed while aiding demonstrators. The military called on the protesters to stop blocking roads and ports, saying they had cost Iraq $6 billion, and it vowed to arrest those responsible.
