Up to 5,000 angry mourners, including relatives of the dead, congregated near the site of Tuesday's suicide bomb attack as IS claimed responsiblity for the latest atrocity targeting the minority community. Jilani Farhad, a spokesman for the governor of Herat province, said the death toll from the attack, in which two suicide bombers throwing grenades stormed the packed mosque, had risen to 33.

Brian McMonagle, the celebrity's lead defence lawyer, filed documents on Tuesday seeking to withdraw as Cosby's counsel. He said Cosby was taking steps to secure new lawyers. Andrea Constand, who accuses Bill Cosby of sexual assault Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill will consider the request at a pre-trial conference Aug 22. Cosby is being retried on charges he drugged and molested Andrea Constand more than a decade ago. Prosecutors found themselves back at square one June 17 after a judge declared a mistrial. The jury failed to reach a verdict in more than 52 hours of deliberations. The 80-year-old comedian has said his encounter with the former Temple University worker was consensual.

Trump at times vowed during the 2016 presidential election campaign to withdraw from the agreement, which was signed by the United States, Russia, China and three European powers to curb Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting most Western sanctions. Trump has preserved the deal for now, although he has made clear he did so reluctantly after being advised to do so by Tillerson.

As Republicans in Washington try to refocus on taxes after the collapse of their failed drive to repeal Obamacare, Trump sent a morning tweet that said: "Corporations have NEVER made as much money as they are making now." Corporate lobbyists and Republicans consistently argue that a cut in the corporate income tax is needed to help corporations be more competitive.

Not very hidden in Apple's Q3 earnings announcement today was a big boost for the iPhone 8. Apple's forward guidance for Q4 2017 -- the period which finishes at the end of September, just days after Apple traditionally launches a new iPhone -- was $49 to 52 billion. Analyst predictions averaged out at $49.1 billion. The bump in forward guidance over expectations hints very heavily that the iPhone 8 may go on sale in September, just inside the fourth quarter. Now, strong forward guidance doesn't mean for sure that the iPhone 8 is coming this year: it could mean that Apple is predicting a big uptick of people upgrading to the iPhone 7s or 7s Plus, or maybe it's just banking on massive HomePod sales.
Tim Cook gave a cryptic quote to Bloomberg's Emily Chan that does hint at something big coming in September. "We've put everything we know into coming up with the guidance...we really like what we see for the beginning of the back-to-school season." If the iPhone 8 is a part of that optimistic earnings prediction, it means that the phone will be launched early enough in September to actually make an impact on Apple's revenues. A common prediction among analysts right now is that the iPhone 8 will see a very limited release in September, due to supply shortages, with production only catching up with demand in early 2018. That is cast in doubt by Apple's predictions here. All things considered, the strong forward guidance is the best news we've had from Apple in months. Although it's not confirmation that the iPhone 8 is definitely coming this fall, it's a very strong indicator that we're going to see something interesting from Apple. It won't pull down $52 billion selling a three-year-old phone design with incremental updates, so unless Apple's entire financial team is deluded, we're going to have something particularly shiny to gawk at come September.

The US president said in two angry tweets at the weekend that he was "very disappointed" with China and that he would no longer allow Beijing to "do nothing" over North Korea. Mr Trump has long believed that China holds the key to forcing North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons programme, given that Beijing is Pyongyang's only diplomatic backer and a key trading partner.
