Three dead as protesters attack U.S. embassy in Tunisia Posted: 14 Sep 2012 12:03 PM PDT TUNIS (Reuters) - At least three people died and 28 others were wounded on Friday after police fought hundreds of protesters incensed by a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad who ransacked the U.S. embassy in Tunisia, state television said. A Reuters reporter saw police open fire to try to quell the assault, in which protesters forced their way past riot police into the embassy. The protesters smashed windows, hurled petrol bombs and stones at police from inside the embassy, or started fires in the embassy and the compound. A black plume of smoke rose from the facility. ... |

University of Texas orders evacuation of all buildings Posted: 14 Sep 2012 08:29 AM PDT AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - The University of Texas at Austin ordered an emergency evacuation of all buildings on Friday due to threats. "Evacuation due to threats on campus," said an alert posted on the university website just before 10 a.m.. "Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. Sudan protesters set fire to German embassy Posted: 14 Sep 2012 06:51 AM PDT KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudanese demonstrators broke into the German embassy in Khartoum on Friday, raising an Islamic flag and setting the building on fire in a protest against a film that demeaned the Prophet Mohammad, witnesses said. Police had earlier fired tear gas to try to disperse some 5,000 protesters who had ringed the German embassy and nearby British mission. But a Reuters witness said policemen just stood by when the crowd forced its way into Germany's mission.
