Republican ex-candidate Graham endorses Jeb Bush Posted: 15 Jan 2016 11:43 AM PST Senator Lindsey Graham, the hawkish Republican whose 2016 primary campaign fizzled despite his persistent call for resetting US national security policy, announced Friday he is endorsing Jeb Bush for president. "I have concluded without any hesitation, without any doubt, that Jeb Bush is ready on Day One to be a commander-in-chief worthy of the sacrifices of the one percent who have been fighting this war," Graham said at a press conference with Bush at his side. Graham throughout his own campaign advocated a military intervention of some 10,000 US troops in Syria to battle so-called Islamic State extremists. |
French drug trial disaster leaves one brain dead, five injured Posted: 15 Jan 2016 09:05 AM PST By Matthias Blamont PARIS (Reuters) - One person has been left brain dead and five others are in serious condition after taking part in a clinical trial in France of an experimental painkiller made by Portuguese drug company Bial, the French Health Ministry said on Friday. The ministry said the six volunteers in Rennes, in western France, had been in good health until taking the oral medication at a private facility that specializes in carrying out clinical trials. The brain-dead volunteer was admitted to hospital in Rennes on Monday. |
Chicago releases videos of police shooting of black teen Posted: 15 Jan 2016 01:18 AM PST Chicago on Thursday released video footage of a fatal Chicago police shooting of a black teenager in 2013 after a court ruling, as protesters renewed criticism of Mayor Rahm Emanuel for the handling of police killings. Images from neighborhood surveillance cameras showing the killing of Cedrick Chatman, 17, in January 2013 had been sealed under a protective order. One 10-second segment of video shows two officers chasing Chatman, who then runs around a corner out of sight. |
