White House strategist Bannon: expect a daily 'fight' Posted: 23 Feb 2017 02:00 PM PST White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon told conservatives Thursday to expect a daily fight as President Donald Trump pushes through his agenda despite a US media in "opposition" to his every move. "It's not only not going to get better it's going get worse," Bannon told thousands of grass roots activists attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) just outside Washington, referring to media organizations who he said were "opposed to the economic nationalist agenda" laid out by the new president. "If you think they're going to give the country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken," Bannon said in one of his first public speeches since the January inauguration. Turkish-backed forces seize center of Syria's al-Bab from IS Posted: 23 Feb 2017 12:17 PM PST By Humeyra Pamuk and John Davison ISTANBUL/BEIRUT (Reuters) - Turkish-backed rebels have seized the center of al-Bab town from Islamic State, Turkish state media and rebels said on Thursday, in a boost to Ankara's drive to defeat the militant group in northern Syria. Turkey launched its "Operation Euphrates Shield" in August in an effort to push Islamic State from its border and stop the advance of a Syrian Kurdish militia. Taking control of al-Bab, an Islamic State stronghold 30 km (20 miles) from the Turkish border, would deepen Turkish influence in an area of Syria where it has effectively created a buffer zone and would allow the Ankara-backed forces to press on towards Raqqa, Islamic State's de facto capital in Syria. The U.S. government on Tuesday said it would seek to deport many illegal immigrants to Mexico if they entered the United States from there, regardless of their nationality, prompting a fiery response from Mexican officials. Calling the measure "unilateral" and "unprecedented," Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said new immigration guidelines would top the agenda of meetings in Mexico City with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.
