| UAE president receives Eid al-Fitr greeting in rare appearance since 2014 stroke Posted: 25 Jun 2017 12:38 PM PDT  The president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, made a rare public appearance on Sunday since suffering a stroke in 2014, state news agency WAM said, receiving well-wishers for the Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast. The agency posted photos of Sheikh Khalifa, who is also the ruler of Abu Dhabi, greeting rulers of other emirates in the seven-member UAE federation at a traditional reception for the feast that marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. In a video also posted on social media, Sheikh Khalifa was shown chatting with the ruler of the emirate of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed al-Qassimi.

| Turkey's Erdogan says Arab demands on Qatar unlawful Posted: 25 Jun 2017 12:00 PM PDT  By Mehmet Caliskan ISTANBUL (Reuters) - President Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday dismissed calls for Turkey to close a military base in Qatar and said a wider list of demands issued by four Arab states was an unlawful intervention against the Gulf state's sovereignty. In his strongest statement of support for Qatar in the nearly three-week-old crisis centered on the Gulf state, Erdogan said the call to withdraw Turkish forces was disrespectful and that Doha - which described the demands as unreasonable - was taking the right approach.

| Eight detained over Colombia mall blast Posted: 25 Jun 2017 11:23 AM PDT  Colombian authorities have detained eight people on suspicion of involvement in a deadly mall bombing in Bogota last week, the defense ministry said on Saturday. Three women including a French citizen were killed and nine people injured in the weekend bombing, condemned by Colombian authorities and rebel leaders as a bid to disrupt the country's peace process. Authorities said the detainees were part of a fringe group called the Revolutionary People's Movement (MRP), which has been blamed for several low-impact attacks in the capital.

| India's Infosys says reassessing long-term goals due to tougher market Posted: 24 Jun 2017 03:40 PM PDT  Infosys Ltd, India's second-biggest software services exporter, is re-evaluating its long-term targets because tougher market conditions have made them appear "daunting", the company's chairman said on Saturday. Infosys Chief Executive Officer Vishal Sikka had said earlier that the IT services company was likely to struggle to reach its ambitious $20 billion revenue target by 2020 due to a challenging market environment. "The 2020 goals certainly appear daunting in the timeframe in which these goals have been talked about because of the kind of headwinds and the shift in marketplace that we have seen," company chairman R. Seshasayee told his last annual meeting before his planned retirement in May next year.

| Bomber planning to attack Mecca's Grand Mosque blows himself up: ministry Posted: 24 Jun 2017 03:21 PM PDT  Saudi security forces on Friday foiled a suicide attack on the Grand Mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, cornering the would-be attacker in an apartment, where he blew himself up, the Interior Ministry said. In a statement read on state television, the ministry said that three cells had planned the attack on worshippers and security forces at the mosque as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan nears its climax. The trapped would-be suicide bomber exchanged fire with the security forces, then set off explosives when he was surrounded in a house in the central Mecca neighborhood of Ajyad al-Masafi near the mosque that had been used as the base for the attack, the ministry said.
