Trump defends court nominee: 'I am with him all the way' Posted: 24 Sep 2018 09:19 AM PDT President Donald Trump on Monday defended his U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after a second woman came forward with an allegation of sexual misconduct against the judge that has further complicated his confirmation prospects in the Senate. "Judge Kavanaugh is an outstanding person. On Sunday night, the New Yorker magazine published an article in which a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, described an instance of alleged sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh that dates to the 1983-84 academic year when both attended Yale University. Boston Scientific's drug-coated stent gets FDA approval Posted: 24 Sep 2018 06:20 AM PDT The medical device maker intends to launch Eluvia in the fourth quarter, Jeff Mirviss, president of Boston Scientific's Peripheral Interventions division, told Reuters. Eluvia, approved in Europe since 2016, targets the 8.5 million people in the United States who suffer from peripheral artery disease (PAD), a painful condition caused by plaque buildup in the arteries of the limbs. Eluvia is a tiny wire mesh scaffolding with a drug-polymer coating that releases paclitaxel, an existing chemotherapy drug, for about a year to prevent reclogging. Eighteen of those ordered detained were on active duty, Anadolu news agency said, adding the suspects included 13 majors and 12 captains from the land forces and 24 first lieutenants from the navy. Hong Kong pro-independence party formally outlawed in first such move since handover Posted: 23 Sep 2018 11:10 PM PDT Hong Kong authorities formally banned on Monday a group promoting independence from China - the first outlawing of a political organization since Britain handed its former colony back to Chinese rule in 1997. The city's Secretary for Security John Lee announced the ban on the Hong Kong National Party in a brief statement published in the government's gazette, 10 days after the party submitted arguments against the move. Lee ordered the ban under Hong Kong's Societies Ordinance, a previously little noticed colonial-era law that requires all social groups and organizations to register with the police. Democrats investigating new sexual misconduct claim against Kavanaugh, New Yorker reports Posted: 23 Sep 2018 09:12 PM PDT A second woman has stepped forward with an accusation of sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, this time during his college years at Yale University, the New Yorker reported Sunday. The magazine says Senate Democrats, who brought to light the claims of Christine Blasey Ford against President Donald Trump's pick for the nation's top court, are investigating an incident reported by Deborah Ramirez, 53, a former Yale student. Kavanaugh denied the allegation, and the White House issued a statement saying it stands firmly behind his nomination. The claim dates to the 1983-84 academic school year, when Kavanaugh was a freshman at Yale, the New Yorker reported. Ramirez said Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a drunken dormitory party. The offices of at least four Democratic senators have received information about Ramirez's allegation, the New Yorker reported. US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Credit: SAUL LOEB/AFP Ford and Kavanaugh are scheduled to testify before a Senate panel on Thursday about what she says was a sexual assault by him at a party when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh said in the statement about the latest claim that "this alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The people who me then know that this did not happen, and have said so. This is a smear, plain and simple." Separately, Michael Avenatti, the lawyer best known for representing adult film star Stephanie Clifford, said on Twitter that he represents a woman "with credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh." His client is not Ramirez, Avenatti tweeted. I represent a woman with credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh and Mark Judge. We will be demanding the opportunity to present testimony to the committee and will likewise be demanding that Judge and others be subpoenaed to testify. The nomination must be withdrawn.— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) September 23, 2018 "This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats designed to tear down a good man," White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said in a statement. "This claim is denied by all who were said to be present and is wholly inconsistent with what many women and men who knew Judge Kavanaugh at the time in college say."
