Hood shooter's lawyers argue against beard-shaving order Posted: 11 Oct 2012 02:14 PM PDT FORT BELVOIR, Virginia (Reuters) - Defense lawyers for Major Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood massacre suspect, told an Army appeals court on Thursday that his court martial judge had overstepped his authority in ordering him to appear clean shaven for trial. A prosecutor, in turn, argued before the Army Court of Criminal Appeals that the court martial judge, Colonel Gregory Gross, was empowered to maintain decorum in his courtroom. Chinese writer Mo Yan wins Nobel prize for literature Posted: 11 Oct 2012 04:37 AM PDT STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Chinese writer Mo Yan won the 2012 Nobel prize for literature on Thursday for works which the awarding committee said had qualities of "hallucinatory realism". The prize won by the writer is worth 8 million crowns ($1.2 million) and was given by the Swedish Academy. The literature prize is the fourth of this year's crop of prizes, which were established in the will of Swedish dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel and awarded for the first time in 1901.
