| Passengers compare scene inside Caribbean cruise ship to the Titanic after 50 rooms were flooded Posted: 05 May 2018 12:51 PM PDT  The scene on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean drew comparisons to the Titanic as 50 staterooms on Deck 9 were flooded. A breach in the Carnival Dream's fire extinguishing system led to water pouring into a corridor. One passenger said people had been relocated to the spa to sleep on yoga mats. Marla DeAnn Haase, a passenger, posted images of the flooding on Facebook . She wrote: "Um....FB folks.....this is a rare moment of internet connection ....we are flooding on a cruise, we heard the violins and the silverware all came crashing down. What in the world....say a prayer for us all." That was a reference to violinists continuing to play as the Titanic went down. Another said: "I literally thought this was a scene from Titanic." Images from the ship showed staff trying to clean up the mess with buckets. Carnival Cruises said passengers affected would get full refunds, a 50 per cent credit for a future cruise, and could be flown home before the end of the cruise. "If people were offended by my statement at the Palestinian National Council, especially people of the Jewish faith, I apologise to them," he said in a statement, days after appearing to suggest Jewish behaviour, including money lending, led to their persecution in Europe. The English-language statement added that he opposed "anti-Semitism in all its forms" and wanted "to reiterate our long held condemnation of the Holocaust, as the most heinous crime in history".

| Kennedy cousin's murder conviction overturned, new trial ordered Posted: 04 May 2018 07:36 PM PDT  (Reuters) - A divided Connecticut Supreme Court on Friday threw out the 2002 murder conviction of Michael Skakel, a member of the Kennedy family, and ordered a new trial. The 4-3 decision upheld a lower court judge's 2013 ruling that Skakel's lawyer did not provide an adequate defense, necessitating a new trial on charges that he killed his neighbor Martha Moxley at her Greenwich home in 1975. Justice Richard Palmer, writing for the majority, said the trial lawyer had failed to present the jury with testimony from a witness who could have provided an alibi for Skakel.
