5 bodies found in Taiwan bridge collapse, 1 still missing Posted: 02 Oct 2019 03:55 AM PDT Searchers in Taiwan have recovered five bodies and are looking for one more person missing from three fishing boats that were struck when a bridge collapsed into the water below, authorities said Wednesday. The National Fire Agency said two of the dead were Indonesian and another was Filipino. Taiwan's military deployed a floating platform to help workers remove debris and try to extract two of the boats from under collapsed sections of the bridge. Hong Kong police slammed as 'trigger-happy' after teen shot Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:58 AM PDT Heads bowed and dressed in black, schoolmates of a teenage demonstrator shot at close range in the chest by a Hong Kong riot officer condemned police tactics and demanded accountability Wednesday. The shooting Tuesday during widespread anti-government demonstrations on China's National Day marked a fearsome escalation in Hong Kong's protest violence. The 18-year-old is the first known victim of police gunfire since the protests began in June.

The Latest: San Francisco disputes NRA victory declaration Posted: 01 Oct 2019 07:02 PM PDT San Francisco Mayor London Breed told department heads in a Sept. 23 memo that the resolution does not direct the city to investigate ties between its contractors and the NRA. The NRA seized upon her memo Tuesday as evidence that the mayor is backing down and said the memo was a "clear concession" in response to its lawsuit over the resolution.
