Third Detroit man to stand trial for shooting death of French street artist

By Serena Maria Daniels DETROIT (Reuters) - A judge ruled on Tuesday that a third Detroit man accused in the killing of a 23-year-old French street artist will stand trial for his 2013 shooting death, prosecutors said. Following a hearing, Drequone Rich, 20, was bound over for trial in Wayne County Circuit Court. Last week, Judge Michael Wagner ruled that his co-defendants Jasin Curtis, 18, and Dionte Travis, 19, would stand trial. ...

The hearing came days after the deadly attacks in Paris by Islamist gunmen, which have renewed the debate over the balance between government surveillance and citizens' civil liberties. On a unanimous 9-0 vote, the court said Larry Whitfield could be prosecuted under a criminal law that penalizes "forceful accompaniment resulting in death" during or after a bank robbery. Whitfield entered Mary Parnell's home while fleeing from the scene of the failed bank robbery in Gastonia, North Carolina. ...

Named after its engraver, Robert Birch, the so-called "Birch Cent" was among the first pennies struck for the United States, part of a series of prototype coins. The incentives, which big business lobbied for, can be either rewards or penalties - up to 30 percent of health insurance premiums, deductibles, and other costs, and even more if the programs target smoking. Among the two-thirds of large companies using such incentives to encourage participation, almost a quarter are imposing financial penalties on those who opt-out, according to a survey by the National Business Group on Health and benefits consultant Towers Watson (For graphic see http://link.reuters.com/byr73w)     For some companies, however, just signing up for a wellness program isn't enough.
