The initial quake struck 11 km (7 miles) east of the city of Kumamoto, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported. Japanese public broadcaster NHK said the quake registered 6.4.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in federal court in the Western District of Washington, argues that the government is violating the U.S. Constitution by preventing Microsoft from notifying thousands of customers about government requests for their emails and other documents. The U.S. Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request to comment.

It is being held in front of the annual New York State Republican Party gala where Trump and the other GOP primary candidates are scheduled to speak. The demonstration is being organized by many of the same groups that were involved in a protest against Trump in Chicago that drew thousands and led Trump to cancel one of his planned appearances.

US health authorities confirm Zika causes birth defects

"Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have concluded, after careful review of existing evidence, that Zika virus is a cause of microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects," said a statement from the federal agency. The decision was based in part on a series of studies in Brazil, where thousands of babies were born last year with birth defects, coinciding with a spike in Zika virus infections among the general public.
