Islamic State's last stronghold in northern Iraq falls Posted: 05 Oct 2017 05:18 AM PDT By Maher Chmaytelli BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi forces have captured Islamic State's last stronghold in northern Iraq, the military said on Thursday, leaving the militant group holed up in pockets of land by the Syrian border, across which its self-proclaimed "caliphate" once stretched. The town of Hawija and the surrounding areas were captured in an offensive carried out by U.S.-backed Iraqi government troops and Iranian-trained and armed Shi'ite paramilitary groups known as Popular Mobilisation. Some fighting continued to the north and east of the town where the militants were surrounded. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Of course there's a Trump tweet for the 'moron' fiasco Posted: 04 Oct 2017 10:13 PM PDT Long before he was president, Donald Trump tweeted an "interesting cartoon." Today that tweet has come back to haunt him after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was forced to hold a press conference denying he called Trump a moron. SEE ALSO: Rex Tillerson calls a press conference just so he can refuse to deny he called Trump a moron Tillerson refused to answer questions Wednesday about an NBC News report that said he called Trump a moron in July, and within minutes this vintage tweet of a cartoon and subsequent meme started re-circulating. An interesting cartoon that is circulating. pic.twitter.com/OPG2R2ytkr — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 22, 2014 The original image comes from artist Dan Collins and includes the caption, "I keep thinking we should include something in the Constitution in case the people elect a complete moron." Trump's version was a little stronger. Modified captions have been memed out over the years and trace back to blogs and Myspace profiles from as far back as 2008. There really is a Trump tweet for everything. WATCH: The $1,000,000 text message that remotely hacks your iPhone This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Why It Might Be Nearly Impossible to Destroy North Korea's Nuclear Weapons Posted: 04 Oct 2017 08:22 PM PDT If the President chooses to launch a nuclear first strike on North Korea, there is no certainty even then that the United States will be able to eliminate Pyongyang's nuclear forces before they can launch a retaliatory second strike. A conventional strike using massed numbers of cruise missiles could eliminate many of Pyongyang's fixed nuclear facilities—assuming U.S. intelligence is able to determine where those sites are—but a more difficult problem is presented by North Korea's elusive mobile launchers and super-hardened deeply buried facilities.
