Ireland will block Brexit talks unless border issue agreed Posted: 26 Nov 2017 07:23 AM PST Ireland's EU commissioner said Dublin would "continue to play tough" over its threat to veto talks about trade after Brexit unless Britain provided guarantees over the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Phil Hogan, the EU's agricultural commissioner, said that Britain, or Northern Ireland at least, should remain in the single market and the customs union to avoid a hard border dividing the island. Israel's Netanyahu condemns Egypt mosque attack Posted: 26 Nov 2017 01:58 AM PST Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Saturday for countries to unify their efforts against "terrorism" as he condemned an attack on a mosque in Egypt that left 305 people dead. "Israel strongly condemns the horrific and criminal terrorist attack on the Rawda mosque near El-Arish," said a statement from his office. Egypt was in mourning on Saturday as the death toll from the gun and bomb assault at the mosque in the Sinai Peninsula soared above 300, including children, in the deadliest attack the country has witnessed. Zimbabwe court says military takeover was legal Posted: 25 Nov 2017 11:39 PM PST A court in Zimbabwe has ruled that the military takeover which led to Robert Mugabe's dramatic ousting was legal, raising concerns on Saturday about the rule of law under the country's new administration. A minister in Mugabe's last government also appeared in court on corruption charges after he was handcuffed and blindfolded, allegedly by soldiers, for eight days before being handed to police. Triggering the end of Mugabe's reign, army chiefs put military vehicles on the streets of Harare on November 14 and placed the 93-year-old leader under house arrest before he eventually resigned on Tuesday.
