High political stakes for Clinton on Iran nuclear agreement

In this photo taken March 23, 2015, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton listens during an event hosted by the Center for American Progress (CAP) and the America Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), in Washington. A final nuclear deal with Iran would enable Clinton to claim a piece of the victory. But if negotiations fall apart or produce an agreement that lets Iran pursue a bomb, Clinton would own a piece of the failure. The likely Democratic presidential candidate and former secretary of state seems well aware of the implications. Ferguson, Missouri, releases racist emails from former officials

Posted: 04 Apr 2015 07:47 AM PDT

Officials in Ferguson, Missouri, have released the full content of racially charged and religiously insensitive emails, including about President Barack Obama, sent between the city's former court clerk and two ex-police supervisors. The emails, although dating back years before the shooting, were among evidence presented by the Justice Department in a report in March that concluded that racism pervaded the Ferguson Police Department. They were sent and received by Mary Ann Twitty, who was Ferguson's court clerk, as well as former Ferguson police Captain Rick Henke and former police Sergeant William Mudd. All three were removed from their jobs after the Department of Justice discovered the emails, which prompted an investigation by city officials.

Kenya Administration policemen arrive in a truck in Garissa University College in GarissaBy Edith Honan GARISSA, Kenya (Reuters) - Somali militants vowed on Saturday to wage a long war against Kenya and run its cities "red with blood" after the group's fighters killed nearly 150 people during an assault on a Kenyan university. In the worst bloodshed in Kenya in nearly two decades, four al Shabaab gunmen went on a killing spree on Thursday, hunting down and executing students in a campus in Garissa, a northeastern town 200 km (120 miles) from the Somali border. The raid has put Kenya on heightened alert and spooked Christian congregations, who were horrified by survivor testimonies recalling how the Islamist militants had sought out Christians to take hostage and kill, while sparing some Muslims. In the message directed at the Kenyan public, the al Qaeda aligned group said the raid was retribution for Kenya's military presence in Somalia and mistreatment of Muslims within Kenya.

Anthony Ray Hinton, 58, emerged from Jefferson County Courthouse to cheers from well-wishers before being embraced by tearful friends and relatives, a day after a judge had dismissed all charges against him. "Sun do shine," an emotional Hinton said moments after his release. Seven officers suspended from San Francisco force over racist texts

Posted: 03 Apr 2015 02:25 PM PDT

(Reuters) - Seven San Francisco police officers linked to a scandal over racist and homophobic text messages were suspended with the recommendation they be fired, Chief Greg Suhr said on Friday. "There is also no place in the SFPD for any officer capable of the thinking expressed in these hateful text messages," Suhr said in a statement. "The officers responsible for the reprehensible texts should be separated from the SFPD as soon as practical. The fine, right-minded men and women of the SFPD that are of the impeccable character required of a Guardian (police officer) expect no less," he said.
