| Microsoft Surface devices fail on reliability: Consumer Reports Posted: 11 Aug 2017 02:20 PM PDT  By Salvador Rodriguez SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The breakage rate for Microsoft Corp's Surface devices is significantly worse than for other manufacturers' laptops and tablets, Consumer Reports said, adding that it was removing its "recommended" designation for Surface products. The non-profit publication surveyed 90,000 tablet and laptop owners and found that an estimated 25 percent of those with Microsoft Surface devices would be presented with "problems by the end of the second year of ownership," according to a study published on Thursday. "If you are very concerned about how long your products are going to last, it might be better for you to go with a brand that has a higher predicted reliability," Jerry Beilinson, electronics editor at the consumer goods testing publication, said in an interview.

Survivors -- all Ethiopian and Somali migrants -- managed to make their way to Shabwa, a southern province along Yemen's Arabian Sea coastline, the International Organization for Migration said. The war in Yemen has left over 8,300 people dead and displaced millions since 2015, but the impoverished country continues to draw migrants from the Horn of Africa seeking work in prosperous Gulf countries further north.

"We've cleared about half of Old Raqqa ... and we're advancing on all axes," said Haval Gabar, the 25-year-old commander from the Kurdish YPG militia who is directing the assault on the Old City front in Islamic State's Syrian stronghold. Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces, an alliance dominated by the YPG, fully linked up in Raqqa's southern districts on Tuesday, encircling the militants in the city center which includes the Old City, "The day before yesterday there was still a small gap," Gabar said on Wednesday.
