Trump apparently gets a folder of positive news twice daily

Posted: 08 Aug 2017 10:16 PM PDT

Trump apparently gets a folder of positive news twice dailyBefore former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer got booted/resigned, they wanted to be known by their boss as the bringer of good news. According to Vice, who spoke to several unnamed officials, the two used to battle for the right to deliver a packet of good news clips and cable chyrons to the president at 9:30 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m. ET.  SEE ALSO: Brilliant New York Post cover perfectly sums up Trump's White House This practice is like a mutated version of something politicians do all the time: get updates about how journalists and pundits are covering them. Usually this includes the good and the bad, but Trump reportedly didn't want to hear about people taking verbal or written dumps on his presidency, and thus we have a twice daily dose of positivity for the president.  The regularity of those reports — reportedly compiled by a staff of 10 at the Republican National Committee — has apparently died down since the departure/resignation of Priebus/Spicer, and who knows if the as-yet-unnamed new White House communications director will continue the practice.  In the meantime, I will sit here and think about what would have happened if, in high school, upon receiving my report card, I had returned it and requested that I (and my parents) be shown only the good grades, please. Macron to backpedal on creating First Lady statusFrench President Emmanuel Macron is preparing to backpedal on the issue of creating an official First Lady position for his wife in the face of attacks from left-wing opponents and a petition against the move, officials and reports said. The issue has become a new political headache for Macron after an online petition against creating the role garnered around 285,000 signatures and an opinion poll showed a majority of French people were also opposed. The presidency will clarify Brigitte Macron's position later this month or in early September, a member of her entourage said Tuesday, adding that there were would be no change to the constitution to create a First Lady position.

Trump administration switches sides, backs Ohio over voter purges

Posted: 08 Aug 2017 06:15 PM PDT

Trump administration switches sides, backs Ohio over voter purgesThe Trump administration has reversed an Obama administration stance and will support Ohio in its bid at the U.S. Supreme Court to revive a state policy of purging people from voter-registration lists if they do not regularly cast ballots. The Justice Department filed legal papers with the high court on Monday staking out the new position in the voting rights case, backing the Republican-led state's policy to purge inactive voters. Former President Barack Obama's Justice Department had argued in a lower court that Ohio's policy violated the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, which Congress passed to make it easier for Americans to register to vote.
