Canada legalizes marijuana for recreational use Posted: 17 Oct 2018 12:14 PM PDT Marijuana lovers celebrated the full legalization of the weed in Canada Wednesday as the nation embarked on a controversial experiment in drug policy attempted by only one other country. Scores of customers braved the cold for hours outside Tweed, a pot boutique in St John's, Newfoundland that opened at midnight, to buy their first grams of legal cannabis. Ian Power lined up outside the store four hours prior to its grand opening, happy to "make history" by being the first to legally buy pot in Canada. Posted: 17 Oct 2018 05:21 AM PDT A bomb killed at least 13 people and injured at least 50 others at a vocational college in Crimea Wednesday in what Russian officials called a terrorist attack. Gunmen stormed the college in the Crimean peninsula's city of Kerch before setting off the explosive device in the cafeteria, it is understood. Officials have described it as an act of terrorism carried out using a home-made bomb. The head of the Crimean college said the unknown gunmen had burst into the building, let off explosives, and started shooting anyone they saw. Olga Grebennikova, the college's director, told Crimean media outlets outside the college that someone had blown themselves up inside the college and that the bodies of children were everywhere. Pupils and college staff were among those killed, she said. Witnesses at the scene told local media there were not enough ambulances to take the casualties to hospital, so public buses were utilised as makeshift emergency vehicles. Law enforcement officers arrive at the scene of the bombing Credit: TASS The National Anti-Terrorism Committee's spokesman Andrei Przhezdomsky said the building is currently being combed for other explosive devices. The Tass news agency reported that most of the victims were students and quoting a National Guard official who said the incident was a terror attack. The Investigative Committee, which probes major incidents, said in a statement that it had "opened a criminal case into a terrorist attack over the explosion in a college in Kerch". Households will also be allowed to grow up to four cannabis plants, except in Quebec and Manitoba, where this will be prohibited. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Suspects in Saudi journalist case tied to top prince: report Posted: 16 Oct 2018 10:00 PM PDT A suspect identified by Turkey in the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was a frequent companion of the kingdom's powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, The New York Times reported Tuesday. Three other suspects are linked to Prince Mohammed's security detail and a fifth is a high-level forensic doctor, the Times said. The account, and a similar report in The Washington Post, could raise doubts about US President Donald Trump's claim that "rogue killers" might have been responsible for Khashoggi's disappearance.
