More bodies found as death toll from Indonesia quake nears 2000 Posted: 07 Oct 2018 11:43 PM PDT Nearly 2000 bodies have been recovered from Palu since an earthquake and tsunami struck the Indonesian city, an official said Monday, warning the number would rise with thousands still missing. The death toll from the twin disaster on Sulawesi island that erased whole suburbs in Palu has reached 1,944, said local military spokesman M. Thohir. The disaster agency said the official search for the unaccounted would continue until October 11 at which point they would be listed as missing, presumed dead. China's Central Bank to cut reserve requirement ratio for fourth time Posted: 07 Oct 2018 08:42 PM PDT China's central bank announced Sunday it would reduce the reserve requirement ratio (RRR) for most banks by one percentage point, the fourth time this year the country has sought to free up credit for businesses as they face down $250 billion in US tariffs. The move to cut the amount of cash which most commercial and foreign banks must hold in reserve, to repay loans obtained via the central bank's medium-term lending facility, will take effect on October 15. The decision is intended to "further encourage the stable development of the real economy, optimise the liquidity structure of commercial banks and financial markets, lower financing costs, and to continue increasing the financial systems' efforts to support small businesses, private enterprise and innovation," the People's Bank of China said in a statement. With 52 percent of voters counted, Bolsonaro had received 49 percent of valid votes, far ahead of former Sao Paulo mayor Haddad's 26 percent and 12 percent for former Ceara governor Ciro Gomes.
