Gay rights advocates Wednesday hailed a first-of-its-kind federal appeals court ruling that employers cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation. The ruling Tuesday by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago expanded the 1967 Civil Rights Act's protections against gender discrimination to include LGBT employees in the workplace. It conflicts with an Atlanta appellate court decision three weeks ago, which concluded that gay and lesbian workers are not protected by anti-discrimination laws.

One in 10 US women with Zika had deformed fetus or baby

About one in 10 women in the United States who were infected with Zika virus while pregnant had a fetus or baby with deformities last year, US government scientists said Tuesday. The study released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracked 250 pregnant women who had confirmed Zika infection in 2016. Twenty-four of these women either had a fetus or baby with defects, said the CDC Vital Signs report, the first research of its kind to be released since the mosquito-borne virus made its way into the United States last year.

Syrian doctor closest to attack: ‘90 percent chance this was sarin’

A doctor who operates the clinic closest to the site of a chemical weapon attack in Syria told Yahoo News he personally treated "delirious" victims who were "foaming at the mouth," gasping for air and suffering muscle spasms, symptoms he said are consistent with sarin nerve gas poisoning. The doctor, Dr. Mohammed Mansour, sent Yahoo News a video from his clinic showing rows of young children lined up under blankets, their faces and eyes frozen, apparently unable to speak or move. "Based on my medical expertise, there is a 90 percent chance this was sarin gas used against these civilians," said Dr. Mohammed Mansour in a Skype interview from Idlib province, where he runs a clinic that he said is a 15-minute drive from where the attack occurred.

Islamic State says U.S. 'being run by an idiot'

Islamic State said on Tuesday the United States was drowning and "being run by an idiot". In the first official remarks by the group referring to President Donald Trump since he took office, spokesman Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer said: "America you have drowned and there is no savior, and you have become prey for the soldiers of the caliphate in every part of the earth, you are bankrupt and the signs of your demise are evident to every eye." "... There is no more evidence than the fact that you are being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is," he said in a recording released on Tuesday on messaging network Telegram. Trump has made defeating Islamic State a priority of his presidency.

South Sudanese troops butchered civilians, shot children: refugees

Hundreds of South Sudanese refugees fled into Uganda for a second day on Wednesday, bearing further grim testimony of an attack by government forces on the border town of Pajok in which at least 17 people were killed, according to a Reuters tally. Some were shot as they tried to flee. Two children were run down by a car. The testimony from the refugees, more than 3,000 of whom have gathered just inside the Ugandan border, offers a glimpse of the brutality of a three-year civil war ripping apart the world's youngest nation. The government denies its Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) forces target civilians and said Monday's operation in Pajok, a town of more than 10,000 people 15 km (10 miles) north of the Ugandan border, was to flush out rebel guerrillas.

This iPhone 8 would be so much hotter than the Galaxy S8

For the first time ever, Samsung will become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in about two weeks when it comes to smartphone design. Apple has always had the edge in the past thanks to the thin plastic Samsung used on its phones for the first few years after entering the market, and then the gap narrowed in 2015 when the company finally switched to glass and metal. Now, in 2017, Samsung has stolen the crown with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, which feature a design that puts Apple's three-year-old iPhone design to shame.

Thankfully, Apple has no plans to use the same design a fourth time when comes to the iPhone 8, and now a new video imagines a next-generation flagship iPhone that manages to outshine Samsung's new smartphones.

Expectations for the upcoming new iPhone 8 — or iPhone Edition, or iPhone Pro, or whatever Apple ends up calling it — couldn't be higher. Apple's tenth-anniversary iPhone is expected to feature a bold new design with an OLED display that takes up most of the front of the phone. The home button will reportedly be removed and replaced with a virtual home button like the one on the Galaxy S8 (but so much better, obviously) and the bezels around the screen are expected to be much narrower than before.

Now, a new iPhone 8 concept created for the ConceptsiPhone YouTube account by a graphic designer called "incriptor" images what Apple's upcoming new redesigned iPhone might look like. The result, though not grounded in reality, is stunning.

Some aspects of this iPhone 8 render are probably reasonably close to reality. The general look of the phone is likely close to what Apple is going for, and Apple executive Jony Ive has said on record that his dream is an iPhone that looks like one continuous piece of glass. Where this concept takes a sharp turn away from reality, however, is in its use of displays on the edges and back of the phone.

The idea of a small, invisible screen on the back of an iPhone that displays notifications is actually pretty awesome. It's also not even a remote possibility on the iPhone 8. But hey, it never hurts to dream, so check out the video below.
