LOUIS (Reuters) - A crowd of a couple hundred demonstrators, angry about the fatal August shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer, took to the streets of St. Louis on Sunday, briefly blocking a major intersection in protest. Dozens of people lay down in the street outside of a downtown theater hosting a film festival, pretending to have been shot by other protests playing the role of police officers in an action intended to evoke the memory of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who died 100 days ago in front of his home in the suburb of Ferguson, Missouri. ...

Army veteran dies of injuries after hotel assault in N. Carolina

(Reuters) - An Army veteran injured and burned during an assault in a North Carolina hotel room a week ago died of his injuries on Saturday, authorities said. Stephen Patrick White, 46, of Greensboro, was assaulted on Nov. 9, Greensboro police said. He died in hospital on Saturday. Police and firefighters found White unconscious and burned in a hotel room after responding to a fire alarm and reports of a man screaming at the city's Battleground Inn. Police arrested the man who was screaming, identified as Garry Joseph Gupton, 26. ...

Workers die after chemical leak at DuPont plant near Houston

(Reuters) - Four workers died and a fifth was hospitalized Saturday after a chemical leak at a DuPont facility near Houston, the company said. The workers were performing routine maintenance tasks at the company's manufacturing facility in La Porte, Texas, when the chemical, methyl mercaptan, began to leak at around 4 a.m. Central Time (5 a.m. ET), spokesman Aaron Woods said. Woods would not say how the company learned of the leak, but said that the Harris County Medical Examiner pronounced four of the workers dead at the scene. ...
