To salvage his presidency, Obama faces pressure to reboot - but will he? Posted: 02 Nov 2014 10:48 AM PST By Matt Spetalnick and Roberta Rampton WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A reshuffling of President Barack Obama's staff looks all but certain after Tuesday's congressional elections, which are likely to bring humbling losses to his Democratic party and could add to pressure on him to reboot his presidency. Forecasters say that Republicans, who have made Obama's unpopularity a top issue in the elections, are in a strong position to capture the six seats they need to take over the Senate from Democrats. They are also expected to expand their majority in the House of Representatives. ... |

Kipsang, the London Marathon champion running the New York race for the first time, ran shoulder to shoulder with Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia over the last two miles. In the last half mile in Central Park, Desisa snuck ahead of Kipsang, who turned on a final burst to claim a victory in the 26.2-mile (42.2-km) race that was worth $600,000 to the Kenyan. ... |

U.S. foreign policy concerns loom large in Jerusalem passport case Posted: 02 Nov 2014 05:29 AM PST By Lawrence Hurley WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is facing an unconventional challenge as it seeks to project credibility as a neutral peacemaker between the Israelis and Palestinians: a case before the Supreme Court involving a 12-year-old boy. On Monday, the nine justices will consider whether the administration of President Barack Obama must follow a law enacted by Congress that allows U.S. citizens born in Jerusalem to have Israel listed as their birthplace on passports. What appears to be a dry legal question is a foreign policy minefield for the U.S. ... |
