"Do I get a discount for that?" the president asked jokingly while unloading a bunch of books from his shopping basket at the Politics and Prose book store on Saturday. "Maybe a neighbor's discount," the clerk joked back. It is not clear whether Obama would have taken the discount, if offered. ... |
Teenage boy missing four years found alive, hidden behind wall near Atlanta Posted: 29 Nov 2014 11:27 AM PST By Richard McKay ATLANTA (Reuters) - A 13-year-old boy who had been reported missing four years ago was discovered alive, hidden behind a fake wall of a home near Atlanta, Georgia, and reunited with his mother early on Saturday, police said. Five people living in the home in Jonesboro, 17 miles (28 km) south of Atlanta, were taken into custody, among them two adults who face charges of false imprisonment and cruelty to children, said Sgt. Kevin Hughes of the Clayton County police. Three juveniles also in the home were facing obstruction charges, Hughes said. ... |

New York man collecting food for needy killed as thief steals his car Posted: 29 Nov 2014 08:09 AM PST (Reuters) - A Long Island, New York, man collecting food for a soup kitchen was killed when a car thief stole his car from outside a convenience store and ran him over, police said on Saturday. Before dawn on Friday, Dionel Ramirez parked his Hyundai car in the lot at a 7-Eleven store in North Bay Shore, about 35 miles east of New York City, Suffolk County Police said in a statement. The 69-year-old Ramirez was there to pick up excess food to give to the less fortunate the day after Thanksgiving, and he left the car running with the door open, police said. ... |

The 33-year-old mother of three woke to the sound of banging on her front door at about 3 a.m. on Thursday in Edmonds, a suburb north of Seattle, the station, KING 5, said. It quoted police as saying the man pushed open the door but the woman met him at the entrance and tried to shut it.
