Army National Guard Specialist Hasan Edmonds was charged along with his cousin, Jonas Edmonds, with planning to carry out an armed attack on the military facility where Hasan Edmonds had been training in Joliet, 34 miles (55 km) southwest of downtown Chicago. Hasan Edmonds, 23, pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and attempting to provide support - namely personnel - to the organization, said Joe Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office.

Mayor of Georgia city dies from gunshot wound after domestic dispute

The mayor of a small city in northern Georgia died after he was shot during a domestic disturbance, local media and state investigators said on Monday. Clarkesville Mayor Terry Greene was injured in a shooting Sunday night at his home, about 85 miles northeast of Atlanta, and he later died at an Atlanta hospital, said Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles.

A Chicago judge is expected to rule on Monday on whether to convict a highly praised police commander of battery for putting a gun in a suspect's mouth. Glenn Evans, 53, was relieved of his duties last year pending the outcome of his case. Evans, who had been praised for his work in high-crime areas of the third-largest city, also was accused of holding a Taser to Williams' groin during his arrest for reckless conduct.
