Chicago officer who shot black teen to plead not guilty Posted: 29 Dec 2015 06:06 AM PST The Chicago police officer who shot a black teenager last year is expected to plead not guilty to murder charges on Tuesday, as Mayor Rahm Emanuel cut short a vacation after two more fatal police shootings over the weekend. Meanwhile, Cleveland police and prosecutors faced continued criticism on Tuesday, a day after a grand jury decided not to charge two white police officers in the shooting death of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy in 2014 who was playing with a toy gun in a park. Rice was black. |

More than 40 people were killed in wild weather in the United States during the Christmas holiday season, including 11 in the Dallas area who died in a series of twisters that reduced buildings and homes to splinters. By early Tuesday, nearly 600 flights had been canceled in the United States. |

Ethan Couch, 18, was sentenced to probation about two years ago in juvenile court for intoxication manslaughter and is wanted in Tarrant County, Texas. Extraordinary security measures planned for the New Year's Day event include more than a dozen armed tactical "rapid-response" teams to be posted along the parade route, along with dozens of surveillance cameras, bomb-sniffing dogs and radiation-detection devices, law enforcement officials said. More than 40 people were killed by tornadoes and floods in the United States during the holiday season, where rare winter tornado warnings were issued in Alabama on Monday.
