Seattle police investigating threat close to Amazon.com HQ

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Seattle police said on Monday they are investigating an unspecified threat close to Amazon.com's headquarters in the South Lake Union neighborhood of the city. Local media reported that Amazon employees had been evacuated from office buildings. The company did not immediately return calls seeking confirmation. (Reuters) - One of only six northern white rhinoceros left on earth died over the weekend at a San Diego zoo, bringing the species closer to extinction, zoo officials said on Monday. Angalifu, who was about 44 years old and being treated for age-related conditions, died on Sunday, according to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The world's only known remaining northern white rhinos are an elderly female still at the Safari Park, one at a zoo in Europe and three in Africa, the California zoo said in a statement. ...

A three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a district court judge's decision to dismiss the lawsuit filed in California by family members of three labor union leaders killed by the 18th Brigade of the Colombian National Army during the incident. ...

Amazon hit by pre-Christmas strike in Germany

Around 2,300 employees took part in the work stoppage at five of the company's nine distribution centres in Germany, the services sector union Verdi said. "The employees are increasing the pressure on Amazon," Verdi's Stefanie Nutzenberger said, accusing Amazon of a "blockade attitude". Amazon said it would still deliver on time and pointed out that only a minority of employees were taking part.


U.S. top court rejects Arizona appeal over abortion drug law

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday blocked Arizona from enforcing a law that restricts access to abortion-inducing drugs by prohibiting off-label uses of RU-486, the so-called "abortion pill." The high court's refusal to hear the state's appeal means that an April ruling by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that prevented the law from going into effect while litigation continues remains intact.
