Tensions with New York City police go beyond racial issues: commissioner Posted: 28 Dec 2014 12:48 PM PST By Frank McGurty NEW YORK (Reuters) - Tensions between New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and the police are rooted in issues that go beyond racial relations, the police commissioner said on Sunday, a day after the funeral of one of two officers slain a week ago as they sat in their patrol car. The tensions "involve labor contracts. They involve a lot of history in the city that's really different from some of what's going on in the country as a whole," Commissioner Bill Bratton said on NBC's "Meet the Press." Fire at San Antonio high-rise for seniors kills five Posted: 28 Dec 2014 10:54 AM PST By Jim Forsyth SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A fire in a high-rise apartment building for senior citizens left five people dead in suburban San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, fire officials said. Firefighters used ladders to pluck some elderly residents from the upper floors of the 12-story building. Three patients were transported by ambulance to area hospitals, San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said. "After looking at the floors, it is amazing that we did not have more loss of life," he said. Earlier this year, Tilenius' company launched Vida, a mobile app that lets patients consult with a team of professionals, including doctors, nurses and nutritionists, from their smartphone. Joshua Williams, 19, was in the St. Louis County Jail on Saturday in lieu of $30,000 bond on a felony charge of arson, second degree burglary and misdemeanor theft of property and services, according to a jail official.
