U.S. announces task force to develop drone registry

The Obama administration, faced with rising safety and security risks from a surge in unauthorized drone flights, announced a new task force on Monday to develop a new federal register for the owners of unmanned aerial systems. The task force of both private sector and government officials is charged with recommending by Nov 20 a process for drone registration that federal authorities hope to have in place before the Christmas holiday, when more than 1 million drones are expected to be purchased by consumers. "We're going to require operators of drones to register their aircraft," U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said at a news conference.

Judge orders Louisiana to fund Planned Parenthood clinics

U.S. District Judge John deGravelles issued a temporary restraining order late on Sunday requiring Louisiana to continue providing Medicaid funding to the reproductive health organization's clinics for the next two weeks as the legal fight over the payments continues. The judge said Planned Parenthood and its patients would likely suffer irreparable harm if funding for medical services such as cancer screenings and other preventative healthcare was suspended.

Law enforcement will never see any money from the sentencing reform bill, despite what promises may have been made by the bill's proponents, Pasco said Biden conveyed to him in a closed-door meeting. The candid conversation between Pasco, who represents the largest U.S. police union, and Biden, author of a 1994 crime bill that guaranteed billions of dollars for cops, highlights the waning influence of the law enforcement lobby in the debate over whether to reform the criminal justice system.

The six-year-old found the loaded revolver on top of the refrigerator and shot little brother Eian Santiago in the head on Saturday evening, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The boys' father, Michael Santiago, 25, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, a felony.
