Eight Virginia officers injured in fight with naked man

Eight Virginia police officers were recovering on Tuesday from injuries during an attack by a naked man who allegedly set fire to his apartment, police said. The incident took place when Fairfax County police officers responded to a domestic incident on Monday at an apartment in Fairfax, a Washington suburb, police said in a statement. Hussani White, 26, of Fairfax, who was naked, allegedly attacked two officers in a stairwell and hit them several times.

About 5 million notifications about the hack have been sent out so far, a spokesperson for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) told Reuters in an email. After it fell victim to two successive cyberattacks, both begun in 2014 and revealed earlier this year, OPM was roundly criticized by lawmakers for its response.

In her first interview since Williams hanged himself with a belt at their California home, Susan Williams described how the "Good Morning, Vietnam" Oscar winner was "just disintegrating" physically and mentally in the months before his death. Williams died in August 2014 at age 63 and had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease three months prior.

The U.S. National Labor Relations Board will hold a hearing Tuesday morning in Chattanooga to gather information before deciding whether to allow the UAW's petition to hold an election for about 165 skilled trades workers.

Marijuana enthusiasts walk by a 5 foot plant at the Ohio voters will decide on Tuesday whether to become the first U.S. Midwestern state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana, although a rival ballot measure could kill the law before it takes effect. Issue 3 would add an amendment to the state constitution that legalizes both the personal and medical use of marijuana for those over 21 years old. If it passes, Ohio would become the fifth and most populous state to legalize the recreational usage of marijuana, following Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Oregon, as well as the District of Columbia.

(Reuters) - - Opening arguments are expected to begin on Tuesday in the murder trial of a Pennsylvania police officer who shot and killed a suspect last February as he lay face down in the snow, immobilized by a Taser charge. The shooting death of David Kassick, 59, by Officer Lisa Mearkle, 37, was captured on the video camera in her Taser, police say. Judge Deborah Curcillo of the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas granted his request, saying the media could not see the video before the jury views it.

U.S. orders girls' locker room access for transgender Illinois student

The U.S. government on Monday found that a Chicago suburban high school district discriminated against a transgender student and gave the school a month to provide full access to girls' locker rooms or lose federal funding. After an investigation stemming from a 2013 complaint by the ACLU, and months of negotiations, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights found Township High School District 211 was violating federal non-discrimination rules. The case is seen as clarifying federal rules on locker-room access at a time of expanding awareness of transgender issues.

Activision buys Candy Crush maker King for $5.9 billionActivision Blizzard announced today it will acquire King Digital Entertainment, the company behind mobile hits Candy Crush Saga and Bubble Witch Saga, in a $5.9 billion deal. The acquisition of King will make Activision Blizzard "one of the largest global entertainment networks with over half a billion combined monthly active users in 196 countries," according to a release. The acquisition is subject to approval by King's shareholders and the Irish government, but is expected to be complete by spring 2016, Activision Blizzard said.

Lonsdale, who had denied plaintiff Elise Clougherty's allegations, also dropped counterclaims against her, including defamation, and each side will bear their own costs and expenses connected to the lawsuit, according to a joint filing. Clougherty, who started dating Lonsdale in 2012 while she was a Stanford University student and he was her mentor, accused him of sexual assault and related charges in a lawsuit filed in January.

Pentagon spends $43 million to build Afghanistan gas station: watchdog

By Idrees Ali WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Defense spent nearly $43 million on a gas station in northern Afghanistan and has been unable to explain why it cost so much, a U.S. special inspector reported on Monday. The Pentagon "charged the American taxpayers $43 million for what is likely to be the world's most expensive gas station," said John Sopko, head of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, a congressionally mandated body. The gas station in Sheberghan, Afghanistan opened in 2012 and was created to show that compressed natural gas could be used in Afghanistan in cars effectively.
