Illinois policeman committed suicide, embezzled funds: officials

Fox Lake Police Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz used public funds for personal purchases, stealing and laundering money over the past seven years, and forging signatures on documents, Lake County Major Crime Task Force Commander George Filenko said. The investigation "strongly indicates criminal activity on the part of at least two other individuals," Filenko said, adding that because the investigation was ongoing he would not comment further.


San Diego police surround 'contained' gunman, flights affected

(Reuters) - San Diego police SWAT team members surrounded an apartment on Wednesday where they said a man armed with a high-powered rifle was "contained" after shooting at officers responding to a domestic incident, police and local media said. "We have him contained," a police spokesman told reporters at the scene in footage broadcast by CNN. The San Diego Police Department said two local schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to an active shooter incident in the city's Midtown area.

A former U.S. State Department counterterrorism official was sentenced on Wednesday to 32 months in prison for surreptitiously filming women in their Washington homes, prosecutors said. Daniel Rosen, 45, of Washington, was sentenced in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on six counts of voyeurism and five counts of stalking, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement. Rosen filmed more than 500 videos over a four-year period beginning in 2010, prosecutors said.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office plans a news conference on Wednesday to discuss new items of "significant interest" concerning the results of its investigation into the death of Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz. A few weeks after the incident, authorities investigated the case as a homicide but did not rule out the possibility of suicide, Lake County Major Crime Task Force Commander George Filenko said. The states that have legalized the recreational usage of marijuana are Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Oregon, as well as the District of Columbia.

Chipotle, which is grappling with its third food safety incident this year, has closed all its 43 restaurants located in and around Seattle and Portland because of the E. coli O26 outbreak. Eight Chipotle restaurants have been tied to the outbreak.
