Pentagon plan to shut Guantanamo prison to list alternative U.S. sites

The plan would have four sections, one of which would detail potential U.S. alternatives for holding detainees, including the Centennial Correctional Facility in Colorado, one of the more promising locations, one U.S. official said. A small team of Defense Department officials has surveyed facilities including the Consolidated Naval Brig in South Carolina and the Federal Correctional Complex in Florence, Colorado, the Pentagon says.

The two men were working for the Marksville City Marshal in central Louisiana when they fired 18 times at a vehicle after a chase last week, state police said.

It took place on the 10th anniversary of al Qaeda suicide bombings that targeted three Amman luxury hotels and killed dozens of people in the worst militant attack in the history of Jordan, a staunch U.S. ally. Jordan is now part of the Washington-led coalition that is trying to defeat Islamic State insurgents that have seized large tracts of Syria and Iraq, both of which border Jordan.

A man accused of being the boss of a Chinese-American organized crime gang will face a U.S. jury on Monday in a wide ranging federal sting dubbed "Operation White Suit," which included accusations of gangland murder. Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow has been accused of controlling the Chee Kung Tong in San Francisco's Chinatown, according to a federal indictment. Authorities have said Chow is the dragonhead of a Chinese fraternal organization that has a criminal component.

Derailed Wisconsin train leaks ethanol into Mississippi

(Reuters) - A Canadian Pacific freight train carrying crude oil through Wisconsin derailed on Sunday, knocking 12 cars off the tracks and spilling oil in the state's second derailment in two days. Earlier on Sunday, the BNSF Railway Co said its crews had stanched the flow of ethanol from a freight train that derailed on Saturday about 140 miles (220 km) away in Alma, Wisconsin, after thousands of gallons of the denatured alcohol leaked into the Mississippi River. In that incident, 25 cars derailed about two miles (3.2 km) north of Alma, a rural community close to the Minnesota border, at about 8:45 a.m. (1445 GMT) on Saturday, the railroad said.
