Wildfires trigger new evacuation orders across U.S. Northwest

In north-central Washington state, about 200 people were forced from their residences as a cluster of fires bore down on the town of Conconully late on Tuesday, said Lorraine Utt at the county's emergency operations center. To the south, firefighters by Wednesday managed to dig containment lines around about half of a wildfire burning on the outskirts of Chelan, Washington, a resort town at the southern tip of Lake Chelan, fire information officer Lorena Wisehart said.

Two missing, one injured after gas explosion at Washington state hotel

Two hotel guests are missing after a gas explosion partially leveled a suburban Washington state motel and severely wounded a gas company employee, police said on Wednesday. The Motel 6 in Bremerton, on the Kitsap Peninsula about an hour's ferry ride across the Puget Sound from Seattle, had been evacuated due to a gas leak about 30 minutes before the blast on Tuesday evening, police said. Police were searching for two hotel guests, and it was not known if they were in the wreckage or had ventured out before the explosion, said Barbara Forbes, assistant to Bremerton Police Chief Steven Strachan.

The hackers, who call themselves The Impact Team, leaked snippets of the compromised data in July and threatened to publish names and salacious details of as many as 37 million customers unless Ashley Madison and EstablishedMen.com, another site owned by Toronto-based parent company Avid Life Media, were taken down. While other higher-profile attacks such as those on big companies, like Sony Pictures Entertainment and Target, have seen credit card data of customers stolen, this attack appeared to confirm that the hackers were not driven by blackmail or commercial motives, but rather ideological ones.
