California governor challenges GOP candidates on climate change Posted: 05 Aug 2015 09:23 AM PDT The letter, sent a day ahead of the Republican primary debate in Cleveland, attributed California's raging wildfires and years-long drought to global warming caused by human activity, a theory generally rejected by the Republican Party. Last month, he urged governors and mayors at a Vatican conference to "fight the propaganda" of big business interests that deny that climate change is human induced. |

Brewer was convicted of first degree murder in the killing of Soderberg and the attempted murders of Officers Kim Thorpe, Officer Lynn Casey and Sgt. Americans say blacks treated less fairly in 2015 than 2007: Gallup Posted: 04 Aug 2015 07:49 PM PDT Whites, blacks and Hispanics also expressed a new low in their satisfaction with the way blacks are treated in U.S. society, according to the Gallup 2015 Minority Rights and Relations poll. Overall, about 49 percent of respondents said they were satisfied, compared to 62 percent just two years ago, pollsters said. The survey of more than 2,000 respondents, conducted from June 15 until July 10, comes at a tense time between U.S. law enforcement and the communities in which they operate, particularly after grand jury decisions not to indict white officers who killed unarmed black men in Ferguson, Missouri, and in New York City. |
