Mexico to airlift tourists after Hurricane Odile

Pennsylvania police name suspect in fatal trooper ambush

(Reuters) - Pennsylvania state police on Tuesday identified Matthew Eric Frein, described as an anti-law enforcement survivalist, as the prime suspect in the ambush of two troopers outside their barracks last week. An arrest warrant was issued for Frein, 31, of Canadensis, Pennsylvania, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan told a news conference. "He's armed and extremely dangerous," said Noonan, who added Frein was believed to be on the loose with a .308-caliber rifle and scope. ...

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Tropical storm Polo could become a hurricane off Mexico's Pacific Coast on Thursday the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Tuesday. On Tuesday morning Polo was about 275 miles (440km) south of Mexico's famous beach resort of Acapulco and moving in a northwest direction at 12 miles per hour (19 km per hour), the NHC said. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph), with some strengthening forecast as it moves almost parallel along the southwestern coast of Mexico through Thursday, the NHC said. ...

California state Senator Wright to resign following fraud conviction

Wright, who was convicted in January of lying about whether he lived in the district he sought to represent, was the first of three California Senate Democrats to face criminal proceedings this year. This effectively cost the party a cherished two-thirds majority in the California Senate. ...
