In fact, cancer is the second leading cause of death in our country, and we need to fight it now before it becomes the leading cause. For me, the battle is personal. I lost my husband Jay and my sister Emily to cancer. |

Man tied to deadly 2012 meningitis outbreak arrested in Boston Posted: 04 Sep 2014 08:50 AM PDT Glenn Adam Chin, 46, had been a supervising pharmacist at the former New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Massachusetts, which produced the tainted steroids that provoked the worst outbreak of fungal meningitis in U.S. Attorney's office in Boston is continuing its criminal probe into the matter, but arrested Chin because of his plans to board a plane to Hong Kong at Boston Logan International Airport, officials said. He is the first person to face criminal charges related to the incident, which pushed NECC into bankruptcy and led to stricter national regulation of custom medication makers. Medications compounded by NECC were prepared, filled and held under unsanitary conditions, according to an affidavit from FBI Special Agent Benedict Celso. |

Big pharmacies knock on door of oil-rich North Dakota Posted: 04 Sep 2014 05:36 AM PDT By Ernest Scheyder BISMARCK N.D. (Reuters) - North Dakota's oil boom has fueled a construction bonanza for new supermarkets, restaurants and clothing stores. The law requires North Dakota pharmacies to be owned by local pharmacists or run by hospitals with a local pharmacist on staff. Supporters of the initiative argue it will remove an embarrassing anachronism, give consumers more choice and lower prescription drug costs. Opponents say that allowing national chains would destroy North Dakota's tradition of personalized pharmacy care and be yet another example of how the state's neighborly way of life is changing too fast. |

NATO had previously said that "well over 1,000" Russian troops were operating inside Ukraine, marking a significant escalation of Moscow's military involvement in the country. "We are still seeing several thousand Russian combat troops on the ground inside Ukraine, equipped with hundreds of tanks and armored vehicles, so (there is) no substantial change in the disposition of Russian forces inside Ukraine," the NATO officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Wales. |

"Many workers and employers will be able to emerge from the underground economy and pay payroll taxes for the first time," the report said. Obama, who had strong support from the Latino community in his 2012 re-election, had pushed Congress to pass a bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for some of the 11.7 million undocumented people in the United States. |
