Several recent cases involving NFL players harming their partners or children have embarrassed the league, prompting NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to apologize on Friday and promise reforms. California wildfire destroys 10 houses, 22 other structures Posted: 21 Sep 2014 10:46 AM PDT By Kevin Murphy (Reuters) - Ten houses and 22 outbuildings have been destroyed in a wildfire that swept through parts of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California over the past week and continues to burn, a fire official said on Sunday. No residents of the homes were hurt, said Tom Piranio, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Firefighters were only recently able to enter the burned areas to tally the structural damage caused by the King Fire, he added. Former NFL kicker Bironas dies in car wreck Posted: 21 Sep 2014 06:22 AM PDT By Kevin Murphy (Reuters) - Former Tennessee Titans' kicker Rob Bironas died late Saturday in a single vehicle car crash in Nashville, police said on Sunday. Bironas, 36, lost control of the SUV he was driving at a high rate of speed around a curve in the road, police said in a statement posted on the department's website. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road, struck a line of trees and stopped upside down in a large culvert, police said. Bironas was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. ... |

Man arrested for trespassing at White House day after security breach Posted: 20 Sep 2014 02:39 PM PDT By Jeff Mason WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A man was arrested on Saturday for trespassing at the White House, one day after an intruder from Texas scaled a fence and made it inside the doors of the executive mansion while President Barack Obama was away, the Secret Service said. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said the latest case involved a man who approached the White House gates on foot, was sent away, then returned in his vehicle to the White House gates. "He refused to leave and was arrested for trespassing," Donovan said. No further details were available. ... |
