Daimler to hike Mercedes production in Alabama by 60,000 vehicles Posted: 05 Sep 2014 12:53 PM PDT (Reuters) - Daimler AG will hike output at its Alabama Mercedes-Benz plant by 60,000 vehicles annually as it increases production of the C-Class sedan and adds a new sports utility vehicle, the ML Coupe, Daimler's chief executive officer said on Friday. Dieter Zetsche visited Daimler's plant in Tuscaloosa on Friday, where he gave specific numbers to the additional production that Daimler signaled in June. Production of the C-Class sedan began in June in Alabama. In 2013, the German automaker produced 185,000 vehicles, including ML-Class and GL-Class SUVs, at its Alabama plant. |

A doctor and a paramedic failed nearly a dozen times to place an IV during an Oklahoma inmate's April execution and were unprepared for how to proceed once the line they secured to deliver a lethal injection began leaking drugs, the report released on Thursday said. "I expect the Department of Corrections to implement the proposed improvements in protocols to ensure that future executions are performed effectively," Governor Mary Fallin said, adding that the department has started to draw up the measures. |
U.S. air controllers track plane with unresponsive pilot off Florida Posted: 05 Sep 2014 11:49 AM PDT The single-engine, seven-seater plane, which left from New York state and was Florida-bound, was flying at an altitude of 25,000 feet (7,620 meters) southbound over the Atlantic Ocean, according to a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration. It was trailed by two F-15 fighter jets, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The jets broke off after the plane entered Cuban airspace. California students rushed to hospital after eating pot-laced cookies Posted: 04 Sep 2014 10:43 PM PDT Two California high school students were rushed to a hospital and three others were sickened on Thursday after eating marijuana-laced cookies that a classmate was selling during the lunch hour, police said. One of the students at De Anza High School in Richmond, about 17 miles northeast of San Francisco, collapsed in a classroom, while the other made it to the school office before being rushed to the hospital, said Richmond Police Department Lieutenant Al Walle. Both students were unconscious, unresponsive and in critical condition when they were taken to the hospital, police said. Three other students became nauseous after eating the cookies, but were not hospitalized, police said. |

34 miners trapped after Bosnia quake Posted: 04 Sep 2014 08:23 PM PDT Thirty-four miners remained trapped inside a Bosnian coal mine on Friday after an earthquake triggered a gas explosion and caved in two tunnels. "Of 56 miners that were in the mine, 22 made it back to the surface and 34 are still in the affected zone," said Esad Civic, manager at the Raspotocje mine in Zenica. The miners are in a tunnel that was not affected by the gas explosion, around 600 metres underground, according to union leader Mehmed Oruc. Two miners were injured in the blast and have been taken to hospital in the town of Zenica. |
