Tommy Schaefer, 21, and Heather Mack, 19, both from Chicago, were arrested on Aug. 13 after the battered body of Sheila von Weise-Mack was found in a bloody suitcase outside a luxury hotel on the resort island in Indonesia. Police said the suspects made separate confessions in which Schaefer admitted to killing Wiese-Mack, 62, and Mack, who is three months pregnant, admitted to helping him stuff her body into the suitcase. ... |

Vienna's Jewish Museum returns painting seized by Nazis to heirs Posted: 19 Sep 2014 12:05 PM PDT A Jewish museum in Vienna returned a painting that was seized by the Nazis in 1938 to the artist's grandnieces on Friday, part of a wider move in Austria to deal with art illegally acquired after Germany annexed the country in 1938. The 1922 work "The coffee hour. Fanny, the sister of the artist" by Jewish artist Jehudo Epstein, was handed to the granddaughter of the woman in the painting, Anne Starkey, who traveled from Britain to receive the piece, the museum said. |

Deputies were scouring the scene of the murder-suicide that left eight people dead on Thursday, but no motive had yet been identified. Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz said Spirit called the 911 emergency line and killed himself after deputies arrived at the house. Man kills daughter, six grandchildren in Florida murder-suicide Posted: 18 Sep 2014 06:49 PM PDT TAMPA (Reuters) - A 51-year-old Florida man shot dead his daughter and six grandchildren in his home before killing himself on Thursday, authorities said. Don Spirit, identified by authorities as the suspect, called 911 and killed himself after a sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene, Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz said. Everyone in the house was killed, Schultz said. The eldest of the children was 10, he said. "We're all family here. What can you say?" Schultz said. The Senate voted 78-22, in a rare bipartisan show of support for one of Obama's high-profile initiatives. With the House of Representatives approving the legislation on Wednesday, the measure now goes to Obama to sign into law. Ten Senate Democrats and 12 Republicans voted no. ... |
