Chopper that crashed in South Sudan was attacked: UN Posted: 27 Aug 2014 12:21 PM PDT The UN Security Council said Wednesday that a UN cargo helicopter that crashed in South Sudan had been attacked and called for those responsible to face justice. The Mi-8AMT helicopter from the UN mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) went down Tuesday near the northern oil town of Bentiu, killing three Russian crew members and injuring a fourth. The 15-member council urged UNMISS and the South Sudan government to conduct a "swift, thorough and transparent investigation" and said "those responsible must be held accountable." |

Nigeria warns against complacency in Ebola fight Posted: 27 Aug 2014 11:31 AM PDT Nigeria's health minister on Wednesday warned against complacency in the country's fight against Ebola, despite only one patient remaining in hospital with the virus. Five people have died in Nigeria since July 25. "Nigeria has been successful at containment. |
Once Upon a Time Is Bringing Back Maleficent: True Blood's Kristin Bauer Will Return for a Major Arc Posted: 27 Aug 2014 11:15 AM PDT Kristin Bauer will reprise her role as Maleficent on Once Upon a Time, Entertainment Weekly reports. When the True Blood alum last appeared on the ABC drama at the end of Season 2, what remained of Maleficent's body after Emma had slain her had been reanimated into a zombie creature stuck in the cave under the clock tower. Bauer will recur in a major story arc during the second half of Season 4, suggesting that Maleficent might become the show's next Big Bad once its much-hyped Frozen storyline ices over. There's also the chance that Maleficent's return will draw more from the recent Angelina Jolie movie rather than the Sleeping Beauty story, since Aurora is already married and pregnant. Here's hoping that's the case, and that OUAT takes inspiration from Maleficent by introducing Aurora's father, King Stefan, the love of the witch's life who burned her wings. Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, September 28 at 8pm on ABC. TV.com's 2014 Fall Preview: New Shows, Network Schedules, Trailers, and More |

Hungary strives to be central Europe's start-up capital by 2020 Posted: 27 Aug 2014 08:04 AM PDT From a sleek, modern office in the middle of Budapest's old town, Ustream provides live video streaming to clients such as Samsung and Sony. Nearby, Prezi has created a zooming presentation tool that even U2 singer Bono used last year for a talk on global poverty. These are just two of about 200 start-ups which have sprung up in Hungary in recent years, with the government pushing for the nation to become central Europe's start-up capital by 2020. Availability of capital, well-trained engineers and low salaries: professionals here insist Budapest is an ideal base for IT start-ups. |

Brazil's Rousseff holding lead against Silva surge in election poll Posted: 27 Aug 2014 07:27 AM PDT Environmentalist Marina Silva has narrowed President Dilma Rousseff's lead down to six percentage points in Brazil's presidential election race and would defeat her in a likely second-round runoff, a new opinion poll showed on Wednesday. Silva, who launched her bid last week following the death of the party's candidate, has 28.2 percent of voter support heading into the Oct. 5 vote, according to the survey by polling firm MDA. The poll showed Rousseff with 34.2 percent, down from 36.2 percent in the previous MDA survey in early August. The other main opposition candidate, Aecio Neves, has 16 percent support, down from 22.1 percent in the last MDA poll. |

Review: Ex-007 actor spying again in 'Nov. Man' Posted: 27 Aug 2014 06:33 AM PDT LOS ANGELES (AP) — Onetime 007 Pierce Brosnan embraces a darker take on spycraft in Roger Donaldson's "The November Man," playing a former CIA agent whose autumnal nickname acknowledges his tendency to leave few alive when he passes through a town. A familiar string of dark secrets, shifting allegiances and (wo)man-who-knew-too-much pursuit propels the storyline (adapted from one in a series of Bill Granger novels), giving Brosnan the opportunity to prove his cool remains intact, sans tux and gadgets. "November Man" won't do anything like Bond's box office, but will satisfy the actor's fans and moviegoers biding their time until the next top-shelf le Carre-style thriller. |
